Springnote Release Notes - April 17, 2007
Hello, this is the Springnote team. =)
Like we've promised, we will post release notes every two weeks on the progress of Springnote. This is our first release note and we have a lot of news that we would like to share.
As we have said before, the first two weeks were dedicated towards stability and bug fixing.
At the moment, it's going to be very difficult to start working on proposed ideas and improvements by users.
However, we are reading and and every post that users have posted, and at times we become very surprised on impressive ideas and enthusiasm that has been shown by users. ,
Your posts has also helped us to think about what direction we want to take Springnote to.
Your immediate posts on bugs has also helped us to create a more stable Springnote.
Although we have tried to quickly fix all reported bugs, we apologize to the fact that there are still a lot of bugs that need to be fixed.
We want to thank everyone who have reported bugs and Springnote related problems.
We hope that Springnote becomes a cooperative process, in terms of improvement, with our users.
Now, let's take a look at what has been going on for the past two weeks.
Hot Issues
Poll! We have received 100 votes from our New Feature section on adding a table editing feature.
We know realize how much our users wanted table editing features.=)
Poll! Proposals and suggestions given on our New Feature section will be discussed among the Springnote team.
We are planning to have a meeting to discuss these ideas and we are planning to have a small notification on the standards and processes.
We ask that users continue to give their ideas and thank everyone in advance! =)
Problems and issues relating to Springnote's terms and conditions has now been posted. The Springnote team agrees to all problems suggested and we are currently revising it. [More details]
We hope that a revision will help to relieve worries that users had.
By looking at benelog's Springnote trial along with the replies posted by many people,
the Springnote team has realized that we must focus on stability and security more than anything else.
During the second week of April, the Springnote team has been really worried on issues where auto-saving did not work or where page contents have been lost.
(Users with page contents that have been lost, can send emails to us individually and give their page address for us to restore it. We apologize for this inconvenience =( )
Currently we have discovered the problems and have fixed a few cases where problems may occur, we are still investigating to see if problems are still arising.
If we continue to experience problems on either page content loss or problems with our auto-save feature in the future, we will definitely find some way to resolve this... even if we have to add a manual save button to eliminate these problems.
During beta testing, we had beta testers contribute in a 100 question survey where a user deleted the contents.
While deleting contents completely in wiki is usually referred to as vandalism, we did not expect this to happen so soon. =P
Thankfully, Springnote has a 'history' function that can go back to previous revisions. (the page has been restored btw..) =)
A 6th grade classroom has started to use Springnote's collaboration features.
We were touched and inspired by hearing that elementary school students are using Springnote. =)

Springnote's user number has reached 10,000 in one week! We have reached 10,000 users on April 5th, and we may see 20,000 users very soon.
We are shocked and at the same time very pleased that the number of Springnote users are greatly increasing. =)

Plans for our Next Release Notes
We expect that we will still have a lot of work to do on stability and bug fixing even during the time of our next release. Besides writing through SMS, we plan to select candidate features from the features that have been requested and start working on those features. You are probably wondering how poll results are reflected in our service plan, and we would like to say that this process has almost been completely organized. We are also preparing a meeting offline with some of our users. We will give more news on this in the near future. =)
We are currently working on...
-
Modification of Service Terms and Conditions.
- We are currently modifying our service terms and conditions. Currently, we are giving and receiving opinions with our judicial team and we are near completing our final version. With our judicial team being physically located far from us, we ask for your understanding in that this process has taken more time than expected. =)
We will try our best to have it complete by this week. - We have specifically looked into the criticism in copyright issues in our modification. Our priority now lies in the user setting their contents' exposure along with limitation in usage. Besides that, we also are planning to add publishing matters.
- Through this experience we were able to understand and learn more on the processes of service administration process .
