Springnote Release Notes - Last Week of June - "Application of Our New Design!"
This is the Springnote team.
This is our 6th installment of release notes that is released every two weeks.
We are now near the end of June. As we have mentioned Springnote's redesign in our previous releases, we are now just starting to reveal bits and pieces of the new UI. We're sure that many Springnote users were surpised in subtle changes. Let's take a took and see what our Springnote developers and designers had to say about our upcoming release.
We're working hard!

We'll now take this time to discuss and talk about our newly designed UI in detail. We'll also talk about new projects that are in currently being prepared. A lot of people have been wondering about what Team Springnote is and many others that have read our Openmaru blog are anxious to start using this new feature. Team Springnote is a new notebook that you can have which has more than one owner. With Team Springnote, you can have Springnote notebooks that can be used specifically by team members. Up until now, Springnote was mainly used for personal purposes along with note organization, however now you can use Springnote in a more collaborative manner with Team Springnote by working cooperatively with others.

Again, Team Springnote is a place where team members can work collaboratively on projects. Although you can currently use your personal notebook with others through sharing, Team Springnote gives you a better workspace and is different in the following ways:
-
Team Workspace
- Members of a Team Springnote that do not have a personal Springnote can still be members through myid's Group ID. Through Group ID, members of the Team Springnote account all receive adminstrative rights.
- Bosses, team leaders, and project managers can make use of Team Springnote by managing projects and schedules through ToDo lists. Apply various templates and macros appropriate for your team.
-
Team Communication
-
- Communicate with other members of Team Springnote by having a page to be worked on along with another page strictly for commenting on the progress of that page.
- Update your team members with news and updates on Team Springnote through various methods other than using Springnote (SMS, e-mail, MSN Messnger) .
-
Cooperative Editing
- Team Springnote makes more use of real time page editing, page sharing, and sharing of ideas than a personal notebook.
- Easily check and see who has edited pages, file attachments, and what areas on the page have been edited.
- Even when your project is finished, you can use your Springnote to search for items in Team Springnote and reuse it.
For more detailed information on Team Springnote, please read Openmaru's blog post on this at http://blog.openmaru.com/142
Now, let's check out the hot issues from the past two weeks.
Hot Issues
-
The number of Springnote users using Springnote as a way to share programming knowledge bases is increasing. We found that many of these users are utilizing our code citation feature. Let's take a look at some examples of users using Springnote for these purposes.
-
We are receiving a lot of feedback on having Team Springnote. If you have ideas or comments on our upcoming release of Team Springnote please go to our feature request forum http://springnote.com/en/forum/idea and leave your feedback.
Changes from the past two weeks! (2007/06/26)
New Features!
-
[Improvement] Setting up link names for internal links
- Thanks to Hwiseul for the suggestion!
- Springnote now allows users to change the name of a link from within Springnote. Lets say that you have a link to good restaurants to an existing page called "Restaurants". You can now make the name different by having the link being displayed as "Good Restaurants" while leaving the original page name the same.
-
[Improvement] New keyboard shortcut
-
- Thanks to nurung99 for this suggestion.
- Ctrl+Alt+M now allows you to toggle viewing modes - Expanded View, Full Screen View, and Normal View.
-
[New Features] Plug-In Features
- We have now created a new menu dedicated to plug-ins so that users can use plug-ins more easily and efficiently.
- If you click the Springnote [Settings] menu,,
You will see a tab that says [Plug-In Settings], click it
and enable plug-ins that you want to activate.
After you have enabled plug-ins, you can now see it in your toolbar under [Menu]
-
Plug-ins that have been added are listed below:
-
Quick Outline
- You can now easily navigate to different paragraph headings with this plug-in. Now you don't have to manually scroll down to see different parts of your page. This plug-in outlines each paragraph with a paragraph heading.

UI Design Improvement!
The next improvement that we have made deals with the dialog box that appears when you click the [Menu] button, create a new page, or when you press Ctrl+Space.
-
When clicking [New page] or [Upload], you will now see a change in Select Location
-
When choosing to select a location when you are creating a new page or uploading a file, Select Location will now appear in one dialog box instead of two.

Creating Links
-
The dialog box for creating links has also been changed. You can of course have set different names for the link name and actual link.
↓ -
When inserting an outside link, first type the URL then the name you want to appear as the link.

-
Editor Toolbar - Selecting Paragraph Titles
- We've created an area to preview each paragraph heading, along with horizontal line and division previews.

This is our newly designed dialog box for our new UI. We hope that this design will be more convenient for our users. Remember, if you have questions, comments, or suggestions please leave them in our Springnote forum. Also, if you run into any problems or bugs, we ask you that you please report them in our Bug Reports forum. We will work on fixes as soon as we are notified. Thanks!
