Privacy Settings

Springnote allows users to customize their Personal Notebook pages to be either public or private. While public pages can be read by anyone, private pages are only viewable to you along with those that you share your page with. * Please note that the following only applies to Personal Notebooks.

Buttons

The following buttons are located at the top of the page editing space. Buttons can be clicked to change the current setting.

Page Publication Scenarios

For example, Springnote provides all of the listed scenarios:

  • Private page with 1 writer (owner) and 4 specific viewers

    Displayed as:    private_page.gif  /  Share (4)

  • A completely public page that allows anyone to read and write.

    Displayed as:    public_page.gif  /  Share

  • A completely private page that only allows the owner to read and write.

    Displayed as:    private_page.gif  /  Share

  • 3 collaborators (writers) and public page viewing

    Displayed as:    public_page.gif  /  Share (4)

Page Privacy Inheritance

Pages created in Springnote all have separate privacy settings. You could have some pages that are shared with friends, some pages that are private, and some pages that are public. To learn about how to change the Privacy Settings of a page click here.

Let's first understand how to distinguish the privacy status of pages.

You can identify what type of permission setting is set to a page by looking at the icons next to each page title.

Creating new pages

When creating new pages in Springnote, the page will follow the same privacy setting of the parent page automatically.

For example,

     sample4.png

if we create a new page under a private page set with collaborators (Sample Page 1), then the page will inherit the same privacy settings.

Setting sub-pages to have the same privacy settings as the parent page

When creating sub-pages in Springnote, the sub-page will follow the same privacy setting of the parent page automatically.

For example,

      sample3.PNG

as we can see from the image above, 'Sample Page 1' is currently a public page while 'Sample Page 2' is public with collaborators and 'Sample Page 3' is private with collaborators.

If we take 'Sample Page 1' and drag it under 'Sample Page 3' to become a sub-page, 'Sample Page 1' will inherit the privacy settings of 'Sample Page 3' which will result in having 'Sample Page 1' private along with having all collaborators that were set on 'Sample Page 3'.

Thus the result,

      sample2.PNG

will give you the same privacy settings.
